Task Descriptions:
Part 1
You need to describe two value chains using Porter’s Value Chain framework (see template in Figure 1). The first one from a conventional taxi company that does not use mobile Applications. The second one, from Uber. Compare and contrast those two value chains. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each value chain? Draw value chains with as much as detail possible.
Part 2
Based on Part 1, (i) At each value chain, select one of the most important linkages, between one support and one primary activity from Part 1, and explain why this linkage is relevant. (ii) Select the strategically relevant/distinct activities from each value chain. Explain your answer considering competitive advantage and generic strategies.
Part 3
This question is about Uber and ethics. Based on the Uber’s Value Chain you developed in Part 1, and on the article from The Conversation (see link below), address the following points: (i) Point out one activity in Uber Value Chain (see part 1) and, explain how and why this activity is related to ethical issues. Use academic references to explain your arguments. (ii) Why ethical issues were not detected when you analysed Uber in previous parts of this examination (Parts 1 and 2). Use academic references to explain your arguments. (iii) What type(s) of management ethics can be associated to Uber Corporation? Explain your answers. Use academic references to explain your arguments.
Part 4
Research three academic articles (minimum) relating to either offshoring or outsourcing and, elaborate a short essay (800 words max.) on two non-economic issues related to offshoring and/or outsourcing in value chains. Note: I am not asking you to summarize articles. Use articles from the following Journals to develop your answer:
