Imagine that your Position Essay has been published in the Editorial/Opinion section of a major newspaper. Now, imagine yourself as a reader browsing through the section, encountering the essay for the first time. Upon reading, you discover that you are thoroughly opposed to the point-of-view presented and feel compelled to respond with a rebuttal (another word for counterargument). Approach this as you would any article or essay by naming the author (yourself), the title and where the piece was published (use a real newspaper or make up a name). This will give you a unique distance from your own work that will help you see it through the eyes of your reader, as well as giving you a better understanding of those who oppose your position.
The essay should be is a minimum of two pages in length and no sources are required. Feel free to write in first person since this is in the form of an open letter, just like the Friedman/Bennett example.
