The United States and Niger, along with other regional actors, have been in conflict with terrorist organizations in western Africa. In Niger, Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA) poses one of the greatest threats to security in the region. This essay will analyze the contributing factors to ISWAs rise and evaluate the current U.S. and Niger policy towards the terrorist group. The current policy hasnt been effective in decreasing the influence of ISWA in Niger. It fails to take in the reasons the groups are able to recruit.
