My case I decided to interview human resource manager in best choice company. Best choice company is a company which deals with coming up with different fashions for human weir. I decided to interview the HR because he is one of the leaders who in one way or the other have a relation with almost all the other employees in the organization. Before getting in to his office, I made an effort and got His office contacts. Later, I made a phone call to him booking an appointment and the conversation was as follow;
STUDENT: Hello…?
HR: Hello to, Human Resource manager Best choice talking. How can I help?
STUDENT: I am a student from southern New Hemisphere University. We have been given an assignment about leadership and we are supposed to interview any leader from an organization of our choice. I made this call requesting if you can give me an opportunity to come and interview you.
HR: That is very nice feel free to come I am ready to help you where possible.
STUDENT: Thank you very much sir. When can I come?
HR: come tomorrow in the afternoon.
STUDENT: Thank you and goodbye.
Later I went to the organization the following day afternoon as instructed by the manager. On reaching there I was directed to his office where I found him and he welcomed me. We discussed different issues and we had the following conversation as part of the interview. In this conversation I asked some of the questions that we were instructed to use.
STUDENT: Thank you for welcoming me in your office. The reason for this interview is to complete an assignment about leadership in organizational change efforts for the graduate class that I am taking.
HR: That’s very nice. Feel free to ask any question.
STUDENT: thank you. I would start by ask what have you found to be the typical drivers or reasons for organizational change efforts?
HR: some of the drivers which in one way or the other leads to organization change may be the management of an organization, relationship between employer and employee in an organization and so on and so forth. When the management is good, there will be a smooth flow of activities in the organization leading to a growth. Besides, if there is a good relationship between the employer and the employee, problems within the organization will be solved easily. On the other hand there are other drivers which play a big role in organization growth. These include: competitors, technology development globalization, social changes and also vision, missions and goals of an organization.
STUDENT: What are the roles of leaders in organizational change efforts?
HR: In almost all the organization, leaders do work as role model of change. They also advocate for change. Beside these, they make decision, communicate and also engage in bring change to the organization.
STUDENT: What are the roles of managers in organizational change efforts?
HR: In any organization, managers do introduce changes that are to be implemented in an organization. They also set ways on how these changes will be implemented and also work as observers to make sure that changers are put in to action. In case of any miss-understanding, they give explanation on what should be done.
Student: In reflecting on organizational change efforts that failed or were very problematic, what were the underlying root causes or disconnects contributing to those failures or problematic outcomes?
HR: In most cases, a company may have efforts to bring changes for a positive growth. These changes in one way or the other may fail and be hard to be implemented. The underlying root that causes this fail is mainly poor relationship between the employer and the employee. Another cause is changes may be too hard to implement and others may even be not workable.
STUDENT: What do you find to be the most effective means to communicate in an organizational change effort?
HR: Since there are different means of communication in an organization, the one that I do find being more effective is face to face means of communication. This is because when we are talking one on one I can be able to observe the reaction unless in other mode of communication. It also gives a chance to get the information from the original source.
Student: What are your thoughts about the issues of vision and strategy in an organizational change effort?
HR: Vision mainly describes what an organization would like to achieve or accomplish in the near future. Strategies on the other hand will show the route to follow or the plan set so as to achieve our vision. Considering this, an organization will easily achieve its vision if it has set strategies which do contribute towards its vision without affecting those who are to implement them. In other words, a good strategy helps a company in archiving its vision.
STUDENT: When looking for an employee to employee in your organization what mainly did you consider?
HR: That’s a very good question. Most of people out there do think that academic qualifications and experience are all what one need so as to get a job. This is not the case since there are so many people who have qualification and are experienced. When you get in to my organization seeking for an employment, I do ask what else can you do other than what you have on papers that can make this organization grow? If you have nothing else there are high chances that you may fail to get the job but if there is you will be more save.
STUDENT: Thank you for your time.
HR: Most welcomed and all the best in your studies.
