I would like you to locate federal, state (MD) or local legislation (bill) of your interest. It can be any legislative topic! Make sure that it is a legislative topic of interest to you.

After finding your legislation of interest, research if there was media coverage (tv or print) about it. In at 4 – 8 page, 12 font, double spaced, 1 inch margin paper, you will write about the legislation of interest along with any media coverage discovered, to provide the following information: 

• The name of the bill, bill number, and year the bill was introduced
• The bill sponsor, the number of co-sponsors, and the senate sponsor (bill cross file) if there was a cross-file of the bill. 
• What does the bill do? Why is it important?
• Did the bill pass? If not, why, if that information is available? 
• What aspects of the bill were covered by the media, if any? Who supports, or opposes the bill? What is the controversy, if any? 
• Is there a conflict between branches of government, or ideologies? Is there a power struggle or power shift? What’s the big policy question, correction, or concern in this bill, if any?
• Finally, given all you now know about this legislation, is there something you would have done differently as a legislator to yield a different outcome? If so, what and why? If there isn’t something you would have done differently, given whether the bill passed, do you agree with the final decision?

Be sure to appropriately provide citations and a works cited page. Your work needs to be grammatically correct (grammar, spelling, and structure). Use legislative websites to search for bills of interests as well as listen to committee hearings and floor sessions, if necessary. This assignment will be worth 5pts and will be good practice for future assignments in the weeks to come.
