This is the scenario.
You have been appointed as the EVP of Sales for our company. I am the CEO. You have been on the job for 3 months. You discover from somewhere (you decide), the sales reporting for our public company has been incorrectly stated for the past 2 years (the quarterly sales results). I am the type of CEO who will sometimes shoot the messenger. I do not know anything about this. If the information gets out to the public there things could happen,
1. our stock price could take a hit
2. some people could be fired and,
3. brand could take a hit.
You are to write me a memo/note/letter regarding this issue. How should you tell the CEO? The dilemma of reporting it or keeping it in the dark
