I know this is a LONG message, but I really need you to read all the way to the end to make sure you fully understand my expectations for this essay!
– The essay will be about The Islamic Golden Age (Arabic Empire), and the two stories are The Thousand and One Nights, and Ferdowsi’s The Shahnameh. Compare the two to see the similarities such as they are representative of their cultures during that period of time, a great representative of their time period, and how the two stories help to represent their culture.
I would like the essay will meet these :
– An engaging title to attract the reader’s attention
- An interesting hook in your introduction to pull the reader in
- A sentence or two in your intro giving the basics of the stories (their authors, were written, when, etc.)
- A well-developed thesis statement at the end of the introduction paragraph
– A brief summary of the Islamic Golden Age period ( Remember that this is a literature paper, not a history paper).
- Body paragraphs (of reasonable length!) that each start with clear topic sentences.
– Some possible topics to discuss: Similar literary devices (repetition, personification, etc.) used in both stories that match their culture/time period, similar themes or major ideas in the stories that help express their culture’s views, similar plot structures or character archetypes that show what their cultures/time periods valued in people, similar religious concepts, similar writing styles that helped express the culture/time period, etc.
- Quotes and paraphrasing from the stories/your sources to support your body paragraphs
- Good balance between your source material and your own analysis–I need more of your writing than the quote!
- A clear, effective conclusion paragraph that recaps on each main point and then closes out strong.
- The essay MUST have five scholarly sources. If you quote/paraphrase from them, the two stories you analyze count as two sources, and yes, you could use the textbook introduction sections as a third source (as the introduction sections are written by a different person). Websites do NOT count as scholarly sources unless they are .edu websites

– Don’t try to analyze a story you’ve never actually read. It is extremely obvious when you are using the “SparkNotes” version of a story to analyze instead of the actual work.
– I do not have a PDF of The Thousand and One Nights, please try to find the original one, I am so sorry about that, however, I will link The Shahnamed below, they are pictures, hopefully, you can read it clearly. And I will link The Thousand and One Nights Materials below as well, hope it helps.

– THANK YOU SO MUCH. I AM REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR WORK. HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!
