In this literaryanalysis from an English language arts class, the student has taken a positionon who the hero of Shakespeares Macbeth

is. In anticipation of his claim that Macduff is the true hero of the play, hebegins by acknowledging the counterclaim that Macbeth is often described as thetragic hero of the play, then states his own claim that the hero is in factMacduff.

Throughout theessay, the writer organizes his ideas clearly. He develops the claim logically, fairly, and thoroughly with several reasons, which he supports with in-depthrelevant, credible evidence, both from the text itself and from scholarlysources. He thoroughly demonstrates his understanding of the topic and thetexts he has read. The writer supplies evidence for his claim in a manner thatanticipates the concerns, values, and possible biases of the audience (othermembers of the scholarly community). Throughout the essay, the writer useswords, phrases, and clauses, as well as varied syntax, to clarify therelationships among claim, counterclaim, reasons, and evidence and to createcohesion.

The writermaintains a formal style and objective tone throughout the piece. Theconclusion follows from and supports the argument presented, reminding thereader of the significance of the topic and claim.

I already come up the idea of introduction like below

Though many referto the titular character of William Shakespeares Macbeth as a tragic hero, another character stands out as a much greater protagonist. While Macbeth isdriven towards madness and to committing atrocities through his tragic flaw ofambition, Macduff lacks such a flaw and remains uncorrupted and heroicthroughout the play. As Macbeth strives to gain power and prestige at theexpense of the lives of his king, his friends, and his countrymen, Macduffmeanwhile endures great personal loss of his family in his attempts to stopMacbeths tyrannical rule and to restore justice and freedom to Scotland. Despitethe name of the tragedy and the hero are same, it is ironic that Macduff acts morenobly than Macbeth. Throughout the tragic events of Macbeth, Macduffserves as a heroic figure through his demonstrations of intelligence, loyalty, and righteousness.

Second paragraph: intelligence

Macduffs prevalence is minimal early in the play, though hisintelligence can first be noted in his actions that follow King Duncans

death.

Macduff demonstrates his intelligence in astutely connecting Macbeth tothe murders of King Duncan and Banquo before any other nobles come to such arealization. Macduffs intelligence and willingness to act on what informationhe has gathered demonstrate his heroism and help to save Scotland fromdestruction.

Third paragraph: loyalty

In all of Macduffs actions, he remains loyal to Scotland and actssolely in the interest of his country.

Macduff selflessly puts his country before those he loves, leaving hisfamily vulnerable to attack from Macbeth, so that he may raise an army todefeat him and end the tyranny that plagues his country. It becomes clear thatMacduff is sincere in his displays of loyalty when he is tested by the youngMalcolm, who will inherit the throne if Macduff succeeds in overthrowingMacbeth. After Malcolm proudly asserts his sinful nature in hisvoluptuousness (4.3.61), his stanchless avarice (4.3.78), and his completedisregard for virtues, Macduffs loyalty to Scotland goes unbroken in hisresponse to Malcolm, who asks if he is fit to govern. Macduff states, Fit togovern/ No, not to live. O nation miserable! /When shalt thou see thywholesome days again (4.3.102-105). Macduffs display of loyalty towards Scotlandover its potential ruler suffices to prove to Malcolm his loyal nature and lackof selfish motives. Malcolm agrees to lead the forces against Macbeth in a movethat ultimately saves Scotland.

In all ofMacduffs actions, he remains loyal to Scotland and acts solely in the interestof his country. When Macduff travels to England to raise an army againstMacbeth, he must leave his family behind. Though a loving family, Macduff has aduty to save Scotland from Macbeth. Macduff selflessly puts his country beforethose he loves, leaving his family vulnerable to attack from Macbeth, so thathe may raise an army to defeat him and end the tyranny that plagues hiscountry. It becomes clear that Macduff is sincere in his displays of loyaltywhen he is tested by Malcolm, who will inherit the throne if Macduff succeedsin overthrowing Macbeth. Macduffs display of loyalty towards Scotlandover its potential ruler suffices to prove to Malcolm his loyal nature and lackof selfish motives. Malcolm agrees to lead the forces against Macbeth in a movethat ultimately saves Scotland.

Fourth paragraph: righteousness

In all events of the play, Macduff acts to combat tyranny and all thatis evil, making him a truly righteous character.

Macduff’s proposal that he is born of Caesarian section and his words destroys Macbeths hope of the power of man, for none of woman born shall harmMacbeth (4.1.80-81) and the death is inevitable.

Not only do the witches prophesies point to Macduff as the one who hasthe power to dethrone Macbeth, but Shakespeare uses a common supernatural themeof his day to portray Macduff as a character of a higher power who seems theonly one fit to take down a powerful ruler as Macbeth.

Conclusion

I already come up the conclusion like this.

Regardless of the events andfortunes surrounding Macduffs character in William Shakespeares Macbeth,he serves as a

heroic figure for his qualities of intelligence, loyalty, andrighteousness. As the first to recognize the mystery and guilt surroundingMacbeth and the murders that seem to line his path on his rise to power,Macduff displays an inquisitiveness and prudence that his fellow nobles seem tolack. Using his knowledge for the good of his country, Macduff balks atopportunities for personal gain and acts solely in the interest of his belovednation, to which he demonstrates supreme loyalty. This loyalty runs so deep inMacduff that not even the murder of his family can deter him on his righteous questof vanquishing from the Scottish throne the evil that has befallen it. In hisheroic qualities, Macduff emerges as the true hero of Macbeth, far more so thanthe titular character whose flaw of ambition drives him to the point of being aplague upon the nation he so desires to govern. In the words of politicianEdmund Burke, All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good mendo nothing. Macduffs role as a good man in Macbeth is not simply to bringabout justice to an oppressed nation. Rather, his character reminds readersthat justice cannot be done without the vigilance and actions of ever wise, virtuous men and women who loyally devote their efforts to upholding what isrighteous.
