You have recently joined a Dutch based multinational company (MNC) that hasembarked on outward-looking expansionary program based on achieving a strongmarket share of leading edge new tech products in new markets.
However, seniormanagement is relatively inexperienced in dealing with foreign governments, potential business partners and customers.
They have requested you to prepareexecutive briefs and guidelines on how to do business in a number of specificcountries.
The business is expected to cover initial business meetings, theestablishment of partnerships, negotiations on projects and funding, andestablishment of joint ventures.
The countries that you are asked to focus particularlyon are:
– Russia
– India
– China
– The United States of America
It is anticipated that 50 to 100 staff would need to be recruited in each of the abovecountries. Given the sophistication of the product country managers and at least thetechnical manager would need to be Dutch for a period of time.
1. Critically discuss the theories of cultural differences that you consider to bethe most relevant and give your reasoned arguments on the aspects that aremost useful for the upcoming international work (as decribed in the scenarioabove).
2. Provide notes to management on the intercultural differences and otherrelevant factors that could impact on business dealings in the four countriesmentioned above – Russia, India, China and the USA, or your own country and give guidelines on how the Dutch company should adapt, organize itsmanagement practices, communicate and negotiate effectively in thesecountries
