1. In preparation, research or select a theme i.e. love, war, fear, family, everyday life, same author, etc.

2. Select three (3) poems or edited pieces of prose  see page 47 for examples of excerpts)) that discuss this theme. These are the creative reading pieces of your manuscript. For additional help read pages 43-46.

3. Prepare an introduction to your presentation (this part is the narration) discussing the theme, the authors, the titles of the selections and your special interest or any other information you would like to add to get your presentation off to a great start. 

4. At end of  your introduction use a transitional sentence moving you into your first reading Poem #1 or Prose Selection. 

5. Retype or cut and paste the first poem or excerpt following the introduction.  Please have it appear to be one manuscript so use the same font and size.

6. Add script markings to the creative reading selections ONLY.  You may not be able to use the same script markings as shown in the textbook, therefore for some of the script markings therefore, create a key: For example, pitch higher can be in italics or highlighted in yellow etc. and pitch lower can be bold or highlighted in blue.  DO NOT repeat the same script markings for different voice properties. One script markings for each: pauses, phrasing faster, phrasing slower, pitch higher, pitch lower, slide higher, slide lower, volume louder, and volume lower. You can easily use the / for pauses and the underline for slower phrases.  The script markings in the textbook can be found under symbols, Remember, you can create your own key.

4. Write and use a transitional paragraph to allow for narration of the manuscript. This will allow your manuscript to flow easily.  In this paragraph identify why you have selected the next creative writing selection to be in this manuscript: how does it connect. This creates a personal touch with your listening/reading audience. (All reading material must be retyped and double-spaced.) 

 

 

6. Creative reading selection 2: Reading Poem #2 or Prose Selection. Remember, that the creative readings all need to have script markings.

7. Narration- use a transitional paragraph to move you into your next piece creative reading selection 3.

8. Creative reading selection 3: Reading Poem #3 or Prose Selection Remember, that the creative reading need to have script markings.

9. Write a one paragraph conclusion Brilliant ideas to summarize.

9. Work cited on separate page. MLA format. Use  if you do not know how to prepare a MLA citation page. 

10. All work must be typed AND use script markings to demonstrate the use of vocal variety.
