Assignment 2Application of Reading and Research to Practice (ARRP)

Module 1: Neuroscience and Learning

PURPOSE: The purpose of this activity is to help youuse current research from educational psychology and neuroscience to critically examine your existing beliefs about and understanding of teaching and learning. To do this, you will respond to some questions/prompts to illustrate your understanding of course concepts and how they apply to education in general and to your specific educational practices. These questions relate to some of the important topics we will study in this class, but focus on the topics, concepts, and constructs addressed in the current module. Later in the semester, you may choose to look again at your views on these same questions as you complete the final project.

TASK: Your task is the answer the following questions based on resources provided in the module and your experiences as educators and learners.

• What new information did you learn from the neuroscience articles and videos that challenges what you previously believed regarding brain development, teaching, and learning? Be sure to include your perspectives on debunking of myths.
• What new information did you learn that may change how you teach or how you encourage your teachers to teach?

Your completed assignment should be a total of 4-6 pages (typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt.). Post your assignment, formatted as either a Word doc or PDF, in the appropriate D2L Drop Box. Your assignment should align with APA style (resources to support your use of APA style are provided in the “Resource” module on the D2L course page). You must include a reference page with all assignment, but you do NOT need to include a title/cover page. If you include a title/cover page, that should not count as one of your 4-6 pages.

CRITERIA: You will be successful in this activity if you can: (a) provide answers that directly address all parts of all prompts, (b) demonstrate an accurate understanding and analysis of the course materials/concepts and an ability to use course materials to support your ideas, (c) apply course materials/concepts to your own instructional practices and/or educational practice in general; and (d) use writing convention/style expected of upper graduate level work.
