Neighborhood Assessment: Using your own neighborhood/community (1 square mile area fromyour primary residence), youll be conducting a windshield assessment. Awindshield survey provides a visual overview of a community. Nurses must beable to knowledgeably plan services for individuals, families, and thecommunity.  To effectively plan, it is essential that you are aware of theresources specific to the community a client resides in to allow foridentification of health-related resources and to understand gaps in services.

While a windshield surveyis normally conducted from a car, physically walking around a neighborhoodprovides an upfront view and perspective that you would not normally get. You are encouraged to walk around but only if the environment is safe.  Conditionsand trends in your community that could affect the health of the populationshould be noted. In public health nursing, these data provide background andcontext for working with individuals and families in their community.

2) then write a300600-word essay in which you select 2 Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)from the following–economic stability, neighborhood & physicalenvironment, education, food, community context (e.g., income, employment,housing, transportation, literacy, vocational training, higher education, foodsecurity, exposure to violence, support systems) and discuss how EACH ofthe determinants affects health in your community.
