This assignment represents the first of three observations and papers you will write during the semester. The first assessment requires that you observe the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional areas of development of a child between 3 to 5 years of age in order to describe his/her childs characteristics and needs (NAEYC 1a.)

The goal of your assessment is to determine competencies in connecting theory to children’s unique growth patterns, understanding of how early development is affected by multiple influences (NAEYC 1b), identification of the interrelationship among domains, and your ability to understand unique patterns of development and supportive practices that can be used to create healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging learning environments.
