Students are required to submit a one-page summary of the assigned paper. Each summary should show that you read the entire paper, and include the main research question, a discussion of the empirical approach, and the main results. These summaries are due in class before we are scheduled to begin the discussion of the relevant paper and will be graded as check plus (10), check (6), check minus (3), not submitted (0). Submitted work that contain sentences directly copied from the assigned paper, or from other students, will receive a mark of 0. The assigned paper will be announced on Thursdays, and the summary will be due the following Thursday. Students will thus have one week to carefully read the assigned paper and prepare an original summary. The summaries must be submitted in class and in person; e-mail submissions or multiple submissions will not be accepted. The paper summaries component of the final grade will be based on the simple average of the marks received throughout the semester.
[Evaluation:] I will use a combination of absolute measures and grade distribution. I may also take into account improving performance, class participation and assignment completion when evaluating overall performance. There may be extra credit assignments.
