One of the things that anthropologists point out is the way that the arrival of capitalism profoundly changes the way that people live their lives and relate to one another. This film explores the way that the FTZ (Free Trade Zone) on the Malaysian island of Batam is drawing people out of their villages to working lives that not only change their relationships with each other, but how people think of themselves.
