Pick one political problem for a current event from this year that deals with civil liberties or civil rights. If the political problem for that current event overlaps civil liberties and civil rights, your essay needs to be very clear about where there are similarities and differences. I recommend just picking civil liberties or civil rights, not both, though, since the paper is so short.

ESSAY PROMPT:

Explain the basic facts of the political problem for the current event that you selected (i.e., who, what, where, when, how, and why).
Explain how exactly that political problem for the current event is related to either civil liberties or civil rights.
What is one public policy recommendation that you recommend to help resolve the political problem that you identified? How and why is your public policy recommendation a “good” one and for whom?

Your thesis statement must directly address the aforementioned prompt in the introduction. A thesis statement may be more than one sentence. Be specific in your thesis statement, not just generally descriptive (e.g., avoid “In this essay I am going to talk about…). The rest of the essay should then provide in-depth explanation and evidence that is based on your original thesis statement from the introduction.

REMINDERS:

Be clear and detailed regarding who, what, where, when, how, and why.
Avoid slang, jargon, idioms, and acronyms.
