Purpose

To assess your ability to:

  1. Apply the principles of health promotion and disease prevention across the health-illness continuum to improve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations, through the development of a workshop for older adults.
  2. Apply leadership concepts, skills, and decision-making in the provision of quality nursing care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and oversight and accountability for care delivery.

Overview

For this assignment, you will create a workshop that will address the health promotion needs of older adults. You will also need to consider a multi-disciplinary team to help you deliver the workshop; therefore, you must identify each team member’s roles and contributions to the workshop (e.g., the dietician might a healthy-cooking demonstration, engage participants in making a simple healthy recipe, and provide healthy recipes for participants to take home).

  1. Complete your required reading.
  2. Read the rubric.
  3. Using information gained from reading your textbook and Healthy People 2030 (Links to an external site.), develop a workshop that will address the needs of older adults like Mrs. Miller (from the textbook):
    • Create a flyer to advertise your workshop (see sample). Identify the topic, the place, and time of your event.
    • Develop a PowerPoint presentation that you will show at your workshop. Include relevant information for your audience. Your presentation is to include:
      1. Information on the selected topic
      2. Age-appropriate materials
      3. Web resources
      4. Graphics and font that are attractive to your audience.
      5. Identification of how members of a multi-disciplinary team will contribute to the workshop.
    • NOTE: Workshop materials are to be creative, appealing to the audience, age-appropriate, and must contain no errors.
  4. By the due date indicated, submit your assignment. 
  5. By Saturday, submit your assignment to your e-portfolio, saved on your desktop. You will refer to your e-portfolio assignments during Nursing 498.
