Article Review
In order to emphasize the importance and the process of research in positive psychology you are asked to conduct an Article Review. For this assignment, pick one current, peer-reviewed research article (within the last ten years) regarding some topic in Positive Psychology. You can gain access to online databases through the library homepage. Some of my favorites include PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, PsycNET, Ebsco Host, JSTOR, etc. Make sure this is original research; not a meta-analysis or a review of some research. Review the article and write a report answering the questions below. Your report should be double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt. font, with 1-inch margins. Use APA style for your citations and reference page.
Answer the following questions: What did the article study? What was the hypothesis? How was the hypothesis tested? What were the results? How can these results be generalized and applied to the field of positive psychology? (There is no need to get into technical statistical jargon here; just summarize it). What criticisms do you have about the way the study was conducted? Would you have done anything differently? If so, what and how? Why? What did you find most interesting about this study? What did you dislike about this study? Be sure to include your personal interest in the article!
Be sure to summarize the results and implications of the study. If you don’t understand some part of it, that’s okay. Work on summarizing the areas you DO understand (ie. don’t bother to tackle the stats unless you get them!) At the least, aim to understand the abstract, results and discussion. Write as if to an educated audience. I encourage you to read your article several times. The more you read it, the more you understand it. I will look to see that you have included all the above requirements and that you proof read your document. If needed, I will deduct points accordingly. See attached rubric for more info.
