Listen to the Science for the People podcast “Fukushima” found at
http://www.scienceforthepeople.ca/episodes/fukushima
and answer the following questions (using information from the podcast):

1) a) What are some of the problems with how information about the Fukushima disaster was communicated to the public?  b)Based on what you’ve learned in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, how *should* this kind of information be communicated to the public?
2) What do Iodine tablets do and how do they work? What role do they play after a nuclear disaster?
3) What are the longterm global impacts of Fukushima likely to be, both in terms of the health consequences and the political/public policy ones?
(Sidenote: In the podcast, they discuss radiation dose in units of “millisieverts” but in class we used “rem.” FYI: 1 rem = 10 millisieverts. So, for example, the cancer dose is 2500 rem or 25,000 mSv.)
The attachments are Chapter 4 and Chapter 5
