Write a 1,500 word reflective account on your role both as a student in higher education (HE), future healthcare practitioner. Basically – you need to pick a skill applicable to students in HE. Presentation skills, public speaking, academic writing, communication etc, and reflect on an experience. Use the Gibbs reflective cycle which has an action plan, and as an appendix attach a SMART action plan table.
Your writing must capture your initial reflections on your role as student in higher education; Your role as a future healthcare practitioner A SMART action plan to address an identified developmental need (weakness) / to be addressed over the first year of your programme.
The Gibbs reflective account allows you to provide evidence of your learning and your achievement of the learning outcomes. It also enables the assessment process to be a record of your learning journey and not just a final product.
Referencing – You are expected to support your work with relevant literature using the Harvard system of referencing. These are the outcomes that you must demonstrate clearly in your writing. Remember that all modules have the learning outcomes in the module study guides. Your work is always judged upon the outcomes so these are the most important considerations when writing your essays

2. Reflect on, and evaluate, own learning strengths, styles and needs as an adult learner in higher education.
3. Develop action plans to address a developmental need to be undertaken over the first year of their programme and in year two.

This layout is only a suggestion. You can meet the learning outcomes however you wish. As long as they are evident to the reader. You must apply best academic style and tone, with a logical flow, supported by references.
Double line spaced, justified at the margins, size 12 Ariel font, page numbers, and your student ID must be in the Header of each page.
Introduction (No references in introduction) Introduce this essay and what you aim to write about.
Main Body Reflection Use a reflective cycle to guide this section. Gibbs or Driscoll. Gibbs is ideal as it requests an action plan, and you need one as part of the learning outcomes.
You must include all of the following to meet the learning outcomes: remember to incorporate your Strengths weaknesses learning style as an adult learner. These must be included as they are part of the learning outcomes. I.e. Reflective learner – practical learner – read about learning styles as this is a compulsory learning outcome.
Describe your role as a student nurse. Evaluate this role – who, what, why, when, and where? How will this support you as a nurse in the future? What actions can be taken to support your development into year 2? Action plan can be made and added as an appendix (this doesn’t go into the word count).
Conclusion (No references in conclusion) Alphabetical Order NOT numerical. No bullet points. No numbers.
