Digital assets can be described as digital content or data that an individual owns or organization owns. This content includes things such as photos stored on a person’s mobile phone or text files stored on a company computer. There are also digital assets such as spreadsheets, logos, videos, domain names, emails accounts, and digital currency. The digital assets that are important to me would be the photos, and videos that I have taken from my time as an adolescent to now. The digital assets that I think the university would find to be important would be the website and its digital library of articles, videos, and books. Digital assets are important as they can hold personal or financial value. “Because digital assets have financial and/or personal value to their owners, they need to be identified and protected, both to preserve value and privacy.” Brunner, S. D. (2016). That is why federal laws and terms of service agreements have been put in place to ensure that digital assets owned by companies and individuals are protected.
Although we are protected by these laws there are people who choose to not follow them. Some people instead steal digital assets and use or sell them to others. Theft is one of the many principles that we are taught in the Bible to never commit. Leviticus 19:11 “You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another. There are even those who go as far as to pretend to be another person using stolen photos. “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Proverbs 12:22
