Week Five Discussion : Master Narratives
After viewing the film and reading the required materials answer the prompt below in no less than 300 words. Once you have posted your initial response to the question reply to a minimum of three of your classmates. Your replies should be a minimum of three complete sentences so you can interact with them in substantive manner, the purpose is to engage in discussion. How does the film challenge the idea that slavery was abolished with the 13th Amendment? What master narratives regarding US history do you see at play here? How do you see the connections between prisons and slavery and oppression carrying forward into today, especially in regards to the master narratives at present? Or in other words, how do the "stories we tell ourselves" explain and justify the relationship between prisons, slavery and oppression.
