    1. Begin by defining cultural identity/identity.
    2. This should include a personal definition which you are to compare and/or contrast to the discussion of culture/cultural identity provided in the textbook (Chpt 1). .
      1. Note: Culture/cultural identity is discussed and defined in Chapter 1 of the text. The chapter does refer to cultural identities and defines it indirectly. Thus, you should compare your definition of cultural identity to the general discussion and mentions of this information.
  3. Cultural Membership:(this criterion should take approximately 1-2 paragraphs to address)
    1. Briefly discuss whether or not you believe a person can be a member of two (or more) cultures?
      1. Given the definition of culture in Chapter 1, is it possible to be a member of just one culture?
      2. How many cultures do you belong to?
  4. Impact on Identity:(this criterion should take approximately 1-2 paragraphs to address)
    1. Briefly discuss the possible impact multiple cultural memberships might have on individual identity and identity development.
    2. You are being asked to think critically here to examine, evaluate, and apply the information you have learned about culture and identity on individual functioning.
  5. Impact on Research:(this criterion should take approximately 1-2 paragraphs to address)
    1. How might multiple cultural memberships for individuals impact research examining people within a specific culture?
    2. Here students should consider the discussion on representativeness heuristic and representativeness bias in Chapter 2 and explore the discussion of representative samples and other research methods provided in chapter 3).
  6. Cultural MisMatch:(this criterion should take approximately 1-2 paragraphs to address)
    1. Considering the questions on the Assessing Individualism vs Collectivism scale, discuss how a person with an individualistic personal cultural orientation might be affected by living in a primarily collectivist society and vice versa (i.e. collectivist personal cultural orientation in a primarily individualistic society).
    2. Why might this mismatch between personal cultural identity and the societal culture at large be problematic for the individual?
  7. Textbook/Research Connection:(should be used throughout response to support, define, and explain concepts)
    1. Clearly identify and link concepts/ideas or theory presented in Chapter 1, 2, 3 to support your response to the questions above. Do not just copy from the textbook. You are being asked to explain and discuss this information. Thus, you need to use your critical thinking skills and logic to make connections, compare, and contrast your own experiences and knowledge with the ideas/research discussed in the textbook.
  8. Additional Paper Requirements:
      1. APA style in-text citation and reference is required. Students may not use websites, of any kind, as a primary source in their responses. Submissions which do not contain both APA style in-text citation and reference, using the appropriate level of citation and/or which use websites of any kind as a primary source may receive a zero. Submissions with a TurnItIn score greater than 25% may be flagged for possible plagiarism.
      2. Papers formatting must be:
        1. A minimum of 2 FULL pages, single-spaced, 12-point New Times Roman font or similar. Do not exceed 3 pages. Reference citations included on a separate page do not count towards writing minimum or maximum.
        2. Do not use any titles, title pages, or headings, course name or date, etc. If you include your name or PID it should be included in the "header" of the document and not part of the main content.
        3. Do not use bullet points, outlines, or numbering in your response.  Essay/paragraph format is required.
        4. APA style in-text citation and reference is required. Appropriate level of citation is REQUIRED.
        5. Students may not use websites, of any kind, as a primary source in their responses. Submissions which do not contain both APA style in-text citation and reference and/or which use websites of any kind as a primary source may receive a zero.
      3. Assignment responses which do not fulfill all of the above criteria will receive point deductions.
      4. As stated in the syllabus and Obojobo modules on Avoiding Plagiarism, responses which do not contain BOTH in-text citation and references, using the appropriate level of citation will be flagged for plagiarism and receive a zero.
