All students are required to complete a short research paper. This paper will be the students’ response to the questions below. Your response should be well thought out, include examples to help illustrate your points, and include citations from only these media (New York Times, Washington Post, Politico) sources.
The Candidate: Bernie Sanders
What were three main issues the candidate emphasized? What were the main groups in their electoral coalitions? How has the candidate criticized Joe Biden? How has the candidate criticized Donald Trump? What was the likelihood of the candidate winning the general election? How has the coronavirus changed the dynamics of the election?

Each paper will be worth 100 pts. The paper should include a brief overview of the topic and an academic argument that includes examples, polling data, facts, etc. Lastly, the paper can close with student reactions and opinions on the topic. However, a majority of the paper should NOT be opinion based; it should be an academic argument.
Details:
● Papers should be 5-6 full pages in length (double spaced, 12pt font.)
● You must reference the specific sources you are using in your paper (any citation style)
● Papers without citations and/or not written in your own words will be considered plagiarized. Plagiarism will lead to a failing grade. See class policy around academic dishonesty in the class syllabus.
● Your goal is to briefly summarize the topic and convince the reader that your argument is the better argument. Do not shy away from discussing the opposite side to help support your own side.
● Your paper must have a bibliography with five to six sources
● Papers must be submitted via blackboard on the day they are due in order to be deemed turned in and “on time.”

Due date*: Thursday, April 23, 2019 at 11:59pm on Blackboard (We added an extra week to the original deadline)
