The term White Privilege. The term denotes how those seen as white may receive social and cultural privileges based on the color of their skin. Not everyone agrees that whiteness bestows certain privileges, and the arguments that support that notion are tied to poverty; that is, poor white people seem far less privileged, and that is a legitimate argument.
For this discussion, you should share one specific example of privilege you have witnessed or experienced personally or you can pull something out of current events. Using a sociological lens, discuss a) the background that gave rise to the situation, b) what was or seemed to have been gained (or even what was lost) by the privileged population, and c) what the effects were on others outside the privileged population.
