    Reflect upon the process you engaged in as you developed the lesson plans, assessments and supporting materials that comprise your Social Studies Unit and respond to the following (4-6 pages):

    Central Focus: ● Describe the central focus and purpose of the content you will teach in your Social Studies Unit. ● Describe how the standards and learning objectives for your Unit will support your students’ active and multimodal learning, as well as their development in an interdisciplinary context (across content areas).

    Supporting Children’s Development and Learning: ● Justify how your planned lessons/learning experiences and materials align with your understanding of the developmental needs of the age group for which this unit is designed. ● Discuss the ways in which the lessons in your Unit will be responsive to the diversities that exist in any given classroom setting. Give specific examples from your lessons to illustrate these connections and support your justification with research/developmental theory.

    Monitoring Children’s Learning:  ● Describe how your planned formal and informal assessments provide direct evidence to monitor children’s multimodal learning throughout the lessons in your Unit. ● Discuss how your design or adaptation of planned instruction and/or assessments allows children with diverse needs to demonstrate their learning. Give examples.

    In conclusion, discuss how you think that this Social Studies Unit will allow your students to “do history” (Levstik and Barton, Ch 1), and to actively engage in the process of learning about the world around them.
