1. My agency placement is Carver Foundation of Norwalk CT five to eighteen. Carver mission is to close opportunity gaps for all children and to ensure they graduate high school on time and ready for college and careers.. I will work as a Future Readiness Cordinator with our High School students making their academic and career dreams come true.
2. The theoretical orientation of my agency focuses on attachment theory, psychosocial development theory (Erik Erikson’s stages of development), and systems theory among many others. Carver foundaton have several diffrent programs that focus on severeal diffrent things. Ultimate goal is closing the gaps and providing opportunity.
3. Five to Eighteen mission statement relates to the theoretical orientations because theories like attachment theory and Erik Erikson’s stages of development are directly connected to child development. Systems theory relates because it is important to understand that society has an important role in a child’s life and providing society with the resources to do so helps encourage healthy development.
4. One way that I have seen the theoretical orientation of the agency at work in the agency was while shadowing a provider training on mindfulness facilitated by my supervisor. The training gave in-home helping professionals (RNs, LPCs, and MSWs) tools and information on how to teach and promote mindfulness in the home. Such training shows how each part of the system can impact a person’s development and life.
5. I am most comfortable with systems theory, it is an easy concept to understand and can be applied almost universally. I am well-versed in empowerment theory, but I believe that I need more practice to be able to apply it correctly. I have to remember that I am acting more like a guide and source of support. I am concerned that I may try to get it all done for clients rather than let them work towards a goal.
