Option 1:
You’d like to continue working on the topic of your midterms.as attached
In this case, you will write a new version of your essay. Meaning, you will update it, adding 4-5 pages, double-spaced, 12 pt.
You should rework parts that may need reworking based on the feedback you received, and extend your essay by adding a subsection or two.
The goal is to expand your research and go into a deeper discussion of your subject matter.
Keep using only “good academic sources” (see exercise in the Introductory module).
Do not use Wikipedia as a cited source (it’s fine to start your research with it), and don’t use random websites online, they may or may not be solid in terms of reliability.
If you use online sources, go to Jstor, Oxford Art Online/Grove, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the London National Gallery, etc.in other words, essays and articles by trusted academic art historical sources.
You should have at least 6 sources total, one of them, as in the midterms, can be either Hauser or Stokstad (and you can, of course, use both if you’d like).
For print sources, again, take a look at the “Bibliography” section at the end of Stokstad. For each chapter/topic, it has a helpful list of further readings, mostly books, sometimes collections of essays.
If it’s a book, read a chapter; if it’s an article, download it from Jstor. It’s OK to cite online resources (but only of the type indicated above), yet try to keep an equal balance between online and print.

As to the content, you can expand your essay in many possible directions.
A. It can be on the macro-level: discuss social situations in more detail, explain, why did this particular style originate then and there? For example, why did Renaissance begin in Italy about 1400? How was this style, in particular, different from either preceding styles, like Gothic, or the later, Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicist styles?
Another example: Why and how was Neoclassicism connected to the French Revolution?

B. On the micro-level: Go deeper into an analysis of a particular artwork. Possibly, compare it to another one by the same artist or a painting with the same subject by a different artist. Spend some time with the work itself. Use the relatively good reproductions in Artstor (access them using your SVA email) to study them closely and supply detailed illustrations.
Your essay will end up being double the amount (or thereabouts) of your midterms.
Please also try to pay attention to grammar and style, trying to improve, step by step, your writing skills.

For all three Options, follow these brief instructions on how to cite sources in a paper according to the Chicago Manual of Style:
https://www.scribbr.com/chicago-style/format-paper/ (Links to an external site.)
Option 2
Quite similar to the midterms, however, with a brand new topic.
If you “had enough” of your current subject, switch it.
Try something new.
Follow the same principles as in Option 1.
In this case, again, your essay will have a length of 5 to 6 pages, following the same guidelines as above.
4 solid sources cited.
