STEP 1: Animal Selection
Pick one (1) species of mammal from the list in the Data Collection Spreadsheet document and add your name to the respective rows.
Please NOTE: It’s crucial that each student chooses a different species, so make sure that your choice hasn’t already been taken by another student. If you have a species that isn’t on the list, feel free to add it (no unicorns).
STEP 2: Data Collection
a. Look up and make note of the following information on your species:
o Conservation status – classified as either threatened (T), near threatened (NT), or least concern (LC)
o Average male body mass (kg)
o Number of countries (approximate) where the species is found today
o Average reproduction rate (estimated as the approximate number of offspring per year for a single female)
b. Record your information on the Extinction Data Spreadsheet (see link above).
