2) Botticellis The Birth of Venus Botticelli paints the first female nude since antiquity (except for Eve). Why is Botticellis subject, other than gender, so different from Donatellos David? What sculpture(s) from history did Botticelli model his Venus after? Identify the other characters in the painting. How does the artist use real gold to highlight various elements in the painting (be specific)?
3) Fra Filippo Lippi painted an exquisitely beautiful Madonna and Child. Who did he use as his models? How does this represent a break from the traditional depictions of the Madonna and Child that we saw by Cimabue and Giotto (be specific: think about color, composition, arrangement of figures, symmetry, etc. the assigned video can also help you with this).
