Take-Home Essay: Module 2 The final assignment of this module is a take-home essay on the question: How do anthropologists explore conceptions of the individual and the self? The essay is an opportunity for you to review the module and, most importantly, articulate in your own words your understanding of the concepts covered in the module including personhood, identity, identification, race, racialization, racism, and auto-ethnography. Your essay should provide relevant examples from the readings/listenings/viewings and, where relevant, your own experiences from your lab and mini-ethnography assignments. It is also critical that the first time you refer to a concept that we have covered in the module that you define it. • The essay is formal. Please check your grammar and spelling before you submit it. • The essay should begin with a thesisstatement that provides a general answer the question referring to the key concepts we have discussed in the module. • Then you need to provide a road map to the reader on how you plan to answer the question. For example: ‘In this essay, I will begin by discussing X and then I will discuss X and then I will provide a conclusion.’ • You will then follow your road map and provide a detailed answer with examples from readings and experience. • Your discussion will be followed by a conclusion. Here you can rephrase the general answer you provided at the start of the essay, and/or provide a critical reflection on the question, and/or provide one or two critical questions you want to ask to explore further. • Citations (i.e., reference to readings, etc.) are to be done in-text and follow this style: ‘Here is an example of the Luvaas’s ethnography of the Fashion Blogging (2016, p. 5). or Luvaas states that ….
