In preparation for this week’s class, your task is to develop a taxonomy (system of organization) of disruptions based on the attached list as a starting point. Develop a visual that organizes the attached list of disruptions into some useful categories. The ultimate goal of risk categorization is to help companies better organize resources and responses to various types of risk. This risk categorization is also meant to help us as a class determine what risks we are focusing on this semester and why. You may choose to organize your list by cause of disaster (natural vs. manmade), outcomes (health vs. financial), supply-side vs. demand, etc. It’s up to you to create something useful and logical. You may also add additional disruptions as you think of them. You may want to develop a key or a color code (green disasters were added by you, red is supply side…), or a system of asterisks/footnotes or whatever else you want to do to create a useful classification system. Be ready to explain why you did what you did in class.
Note – on the attached spreadsheet, if it was a disruption I thought you might not be as familiar with, I provided a link to information about the disruption.
