The goal of this assignment is that you gain practice in analyzing data collected about the reading attitudes and interests of a group of students and that you interpret that data to group students and select high-quality texts for that group based on learner interests and needs.

You will select the class to review, review the surveys, analyze and interpret the results. You will then identify a small group of 3-5 students based on the results. You will give a brief explanation of the survey results that led you to group those students together and select at least 5 examples of high-quality texts that you could use with these students in a small-group setting and give an outline of how you would use each text in the group.

Your assignment should include:

– An overview of the results of the surveys, including the grade of the class, number of students participating, and a table/graph/chart showing the responses to the survey questions

– An analysis of the survey results, including any trends that you noticed and general observations about the interests of students (In other words, what did the survey tell you about the readers in that class?)

– An identification of a small group of 3-5 students that you could pull based on the results of the survey. You do not need to include the names of the students but you do need to answer the following:

– What results from the survey lead you to group these students together? Explain.

– What would be the goal of this small group? (This should be related to the information that you gathered from the survey.)

– What texts (at least 5 high-quality texts) would you use with this small group? For each text, include the title, author, and genre. Also give an outline of how you would use each text in the group, including why the text was selected, the goals for the small group lesson in which the text would be used, and questions that you would ask in the small group.
