Case Study Paper 2 Directions

Purpose: The broader goal is to encourage reflection, critical thinking, and application of organizational communication. The narrower goal is to provide students an opportunity to reflect on the organizational processes of organizational culture, information flow, and workplace relationships.
Page Requirement: 2 full pages to 4 full pages of text.
Procedural Guidelines: APA Format: cover page, 1-inch margins, double-spacing, Times New Roman 12 font, running head, page numbers in upper right-hand corner of page, and reference page.
Point Value: 25 points.

Directions: Read the cased study entitled “The Indictment: A Superior-Subordinate Confrontation.” Your paper should be divided into four sections: Summary, Communication in the Office of the City Manager, Best Practices, and Conclusion. Each heading should be written in bold type and be aligned to the left of the page.
• In the Summary section, write a one paragraph synopsis or summary of the case. The summary should include the major developments of the case written in 3-4 sentences.
• In the Communication in the Office of the City Manager section, without numbering your responses, answer the questions below using your knowledge about the processes of organizing to inform your answers.
1. Identify what you perceive as the artifacts, values, and assumptions of the Office of the City Manager.
2. Explain Leader-Member Exchange Theory (LMX) and identify whether Frank and Ron have an in-group (Partnership) or an out-group (Overseer) relationship with John Bammarito. Support your reasoning with information from the case study and your knowledge about LMX Theory.
3. Explain whether Frank and Ron’s peer coworker relationship could be described as an information, collegial, or special peer coworker relationship. Support your reasoning with information from the case study and insight about peer coworker relationships.
4. Describe what you perceive to be the organizational structural design at the Office of the City Manager and identify the communication channel most frequently used in that organization.
• In the Best Practices section, use your knowledge of the processes of organizing that you have gathered from Kramer and Bisel (2017) and our class discussion to provide three rational suggestions how future organizational members can avoid the confusion that Frank and Ron experienced.

• In the Conclusion section, provide a one paragraph summary of the paper and provide your reader a sense of closure.
