If you’ve been looking for an excuse to rewatch your favorite movie, this is it! Read through the questions below and then choose a movie you love that will allow you to answer the questions thoroughly.

Guidelines:

  • You must give at least three examples to support each of your responses to the questions below – keep that in mind when choosing a movie to watch.
  • Although you have several different questions to answer, your paper should flow smoothly. It should feel like one continuous paper, not a random collection of answers.
  • For maximum instructor happiness, please follow the format below when answering questions. If you jumble up your answers, it makes it harder for me to grade and the chances increase that I’ll miss something or deduct points.

Format:

  • Your first paragraph should consist of a brief overview of the movie. Remember that I may not have seen it, so it needs to make enough sense that I can understand the rest of the paper.
  • After your introductory paragraph, answer the following questions in order.
    1. Choose at least three characters from the movie. Explain their role in the film and list 3-5 co-cultures that eachcharacter belongs to.
      • (For example, in Inside Out, Riley is a preteen, female, an only child, a hockey player, and a “new kid” at school.)
    2. Using those same three characters, describe how each of their respective co-cultures affects their verbal and nonverbal behaviors throughout the film. Give at least one example for each.
    3. For each of the three characters you chose, explain which co-culture you think is most important to their overall identity. Why do you think this? What happens in the movie that supports your opinion?
    4. Choose a concept that we learned about this semester that is interesting to you. It can be any concept or idea from the book. Define this concept/idea, explain why it’s interesting to you, then provide at least three examples of that concept/idea that occur in the movie.
    5. Think about why you love this movie. What lessons does it teach you? How does it affect the way you interact with or perceive others? Has this movie changed your behavior or life in any way, and if so – how? Think about the positives as well as the negatives. As long as you answer truthfully and your answer makes sense, you’ll be in good shape with this question.
