Final Paper: Theoretical Frameworks and Analysis (40 points)

The final paper will build on all previous assignments of this class. In a 10 page [double spaced] written assignment, you will be required to reflect on two areas, (i) locating self in the context of social systems, (ii) analysis of 1-2 theories/ frameworks that according to you are most applicable to provide anti-oppressive services to the community in an area of your interest.

Section 1: Locating Self in the Context of Social Systems [20 Points]

1. A general description of yourself as a bio-psycho-social-cultural-spiritual being. Address each part of the hyphenated description. State how the overall combination of these characteristics influenced the opportunities and barriers, which you have experienced in your life.
2. Diversity, discrimination and oppression; power and privilege affect everyone, whether they are a part of the dominant group or a subordinated group. Describe the impact of diversity, discrimination and oppression on your development and worldview (personal and professional).
3. Identify and briefly describe at least 2 major events or factors in the larger environment, such as political or social movements or national problems, which have influenced you. For each one, briefly describe how your development and worldview were affected.

Section 2: Analysis of 1 theory that according to you are most applicable to provide anti-oppressive services to the community in an area of your interest. [20 points]

• Based on the various theories that were discussed throughout the quarter, please select one theory that resonated with you.

  2. Analyze why the selected theory resonates with your professional identity as a clinical social worker.
  3. Provide at least 2 examples of how you would integrate the selected theory into your practice.
  4. How do you think the selected theory can be utilized to provide anti-oppressive services to diverse communities? [ Please note: Diversity is not limited to ethnicity and/or race. It can be interpreted as diverse income brackets, gender identities, immigration status, geographical location, etc.]
