Question 1. Frederick Taylor was excellent at identifying areas in a system where efficiency could be gained by studying and optimizing repetitive tasks. This worked well in factories, but might be harder in a setting such as an indie music label like Shellhaven.

Identify one repetitive task that appears to be done regularly in the Shellhaven case study and describe it. Guided by Scientific Management Theory, explain what type of research you would do to figure out how to optimize the task. State one concept from Scientific Management Theory that relates directly to how you would approach making this task more efficient.

 

Question 2. One strategy Frederick Taylor used in Scientific Management Theory was intelligent and deliberate division of labor. Identify one process in the Shellhaven case study, and describe the division of labor. If you do not believe this is an optimal division of labor, propose an alternative, and if you believe it is optimal as it is, state your reasons. Support your opinion by relating it to concepts from Scientific Management Theory.

 

Question 3. Consider the negative outcomes of applying Frederick Taylor’s Scientific Management Theory. State which negative outcome you think would be the highest risk if applying Scientific Management Theory to the Shellhaven case study, and explain why. State which negative outcome you think would be the easiest to avoid if applying Scientific Management Theory to the Shellhaven case study, and explain why.
