SELECTED THEORIES
1. Transactional Leadership: A leadership style where the leader focuses on the supervision and organization of his or her followers. The leader also promotes a contingent rewards and punishments system to influence and motivate followers performance (Burns, 1978; Bass, 1985).
2. Transformational Leadership:A leadership style that is defined by the leaders approach to inspiring andmotivating his or her followers to achieve more than the followers believe theycan achieve. This style of leadership is centered on the leader establishingvalue in his or her individual followers,andestablishingaclear vision and goals for followers to worktoward achieving (Burns, 1978; Bass, 1985).
3. Laissez-Faire Leadership: Aleadership style where the leader consciously decides to take a hands-offapproach to leadership, with the belief that followers understand their particularrolewithin the organization, and, therefore, active leadership and oversight isunnecessary (Lewin, Lippit& White, 1939).
