You are required explore this issue through current research literature. The purpose of this assessment is to further establish current knowledge on this area of research using a minimum of six (6) research based journal articles including the paper chosen for the critique assignment. This task requires you to demonstrate your understanding of the literature on a particular topic. You show your understanding by analysing and then synthesising the information to: Determine what has already been written on a topic Establish the significance of the topic Identify previous approaches to the topic Identify central issues in the field Integrate what previous researchers have found Evaluate likely solutions that researchers have recommended Identify important issues still unresolved This written assessment should have an essay structure that includes (1) an Introduction, (2) Body and (3) Conclusion. These headings are only guidelines as to how to develop the content of your essay. In the Introduction Define or identify the chosen topic, issue or area of concern, thus providing an appropriate context for reviewing the literature Point out overall trends in what has already been published Establish the rationale and importance of your chosen topic Indicate the organisation of the literature review In the Body Group the research studies and other relevant literature according to a common theme Compare and evaluate each item of the literature Provide topic sentences at the beginning of paragraphs and summary sentences at the end of sections to help the reader understand what the main issues are For the Conclusion Summarise the literature maintaining the focus presented in the introduction Evaluate recommended solutions provided in the literature including, pointing out gaps in the literature, inconsistencies and issues that are important for future study Conclude by giving some insight into the relationship between your topic and a larger area of study or area of professional practice Students should note that a good critical literature review would aim to cover important, relevant, and up-to-date literature. You will provide an insightful analysis of the ideas and conclusions presented in the literature that points out similarities and differences, and identifies gaps in the literature for future research.
