Imagine you won the lottery. You are about to purchase a new vehicle with your lottery winnings. Explain the influences, personal processes, and steps that influence your purchase decision. Refer to Exhibit 5.1 for reference.

Part 1: Interpersonal & Nonpersonal Influences, Personal Processes
- Imagine you’ve won the lottery. Before making a vehicle purchase decision, explain what interpersonal and nonpersonal influences as well as personal processes will impact your decision. You can create a bulleted list like the example below. Be specific!
- Interpersonal Influences:
- Family – My dad’s opinion matters to me because he’s a car expert.
- Nonpersonal Influences:
- Place – I want to avoid the traditional car salesman experience, so the vehicle needs to be able to be delivered to my home instead.
- Personal Processes:
- Motivation – I’m motivated to buy a vehicle that represents my personality and is environmentally friendly.
Part 2: Steps in the Decision Process
- After explaining the influences and processes that will ultimately impact your decision, explain each step of your decision-making process. An example is below.
- Problem Recognition: My existing vehicle is old. I just won a ton of money, so now I can afford a better vehicle. I need to decide which vehicle to purchase. This vehicle needs to be environmentally friendly, high quality, and luxurious.
- Information Search: After talking to my dad and hearing his advice, I’ve visited three different vehicle brand websites (Infiniti, Tesla, Audi).
- Evaluation and Selection: After reviewing the brand websites, I’ve figured out what vehicle models are most appealing to me based on the set of criteria I’ve established. After comparing vehicle features, I’ve determined that the Tesla Model 3 is the best vehicle for me.
- Store Choice & Purchase: Since I don’t want to visit a car dealership, I will purchase my vehicle directly from the Tesla website and select the home delivery option.
- Postpurchase Behavior: After purchasing my new vehicle, I will determine if I like the vehicle by comparing my expectations to reality. I’ll then submit a review online.
