Director Brett Novak’s piece, “Shepard Fairey: Obey This Film,” highlights Fairey’s artistic influences and his way of using remediated advertising iconography to create images infused with social commentary. “This idea that a picture can be the thing that hits a viewer in the gut, that makes their head follow their heart is such an important concept in my work that no matter what I’m doing I like the idea that someone can’t resist the visual allure of an image and even if it doesn’t align with their political predispositions that the image itself will be beckoning at them to mull it over.”
