Out of Class Writing Assignment Two–Assignment Guideline

Weve just reviewed the basic structure of a cause and effect essay. Now you are asked to plan, draft and complete a cause/effect essay to demonstrate your understanding of this type of expository writing. In addition, you are asked to reexamine the topics discussed in Unit 3 and 4 of LEAP 3. In Unit 3, product life cycles and product adoption processes are discussed; in Unit 4, arguments for and against marketing and its strategies are examined. 

For this essay,  following topics:

1. In your essay, answer the following questions. What are the primary reasons for consumers to adopt a product? What consequences does their product adoption process have on their lives?

Assignment Requirement Checklist: 

Because each draft will receive a letter grade, make sure to check if your paper meets the following criteria:

  • Contains a minimum of 550 words (about 2.5 full pages, no more and no less)
  • Is organized with at least 5 paragraphs (with a clear thesis statement, topic sentences in the body paragraphs, strong supporting ideas, and a conclusion)
  • Has elements of coherence and unity within and between paragraphs
  • Includes at least 5 transitions within and between paragraphs (use cause/effect signal words)
  • Use sentence variety
  • Use at least 10 vocabulary words chosen from Vocabulary Unit 3 and 4 (Underline the words in both drafts)
  • Shows good use of summary and paraphrasing skills (make two references to readings from the book)
  • Shows evidence of editing and proofreading skills
  • Shows improvements by using teachers feedback in the outline and peer evaluation
