Content from reports or media companies that are not available online should be copied and added to the appendix. Most content is expected to be online, thus lecturers may check the reference. If this is not the case, put the photocopy of the material in the appendix. You do not need to add copy of books, because either they are online or they are available in libraries, but other reports and news pieces that cannot be accessed easily should be photocopied and added as appendix.
Students are expected to consult between 3 and 5 references to build their theoretical perspectives (all from academic journals and books), and between 5 and 10 references on the particular cases they are investigating (at least two from academic journals and books). During the process of choosing references, some articles, books and Internet content will be rejected. We do not need to be informed about the content you have read and rejected. Put in the reference list only the references you have used and you are referencing in the text. Remember: you need to make the reference in the text (for instance, “as explained by Scott (2008: 210), this system…”), and to add the full reference in the end of the document.
References should be in a single list, in the end of the document. Do not keep web references separate, and do include the dates accessed, and the author or a short title for web sites. Among many other guidelines, do not put references in footnotes (only in the end of your report). Do not add bibliography that you have not cited in your work.
Marks will be awarded as follows:
5% Abstract (very short summary of your paper, around 200 words) 10% Introduction (should include your research procedure*)
15% Theoretical perspective
30% Findings / Analysis
20% Conclusions and recommendations
5% References
5% Presentation of written work (include organisation and language) 10% Reflection
* Your introduction should include your research procedure. This means that you should explain how you went about your work, particularly how you chose your topic; how you searched for published materials on the organisation and the related IM or knowledge topic that you have chosen. How and why did you select or reject topics and published materials? This information helps your reader to know why you researched in the way you did, when they try to see the relevance of your work to their interests. A good brief reference, that will help you with your project, is R. Yin (2008), Case Study Research: Design and Methods. Sage Publications.
