So, the total references should be 19 refences. HLN405 Assignment One – some ideas The objective of the first assignment is to write about an area of theoretical knowledge that could inform a qualitative study. The term theory means a systematic argument that justifies a research approach. Think about an approach as the lens through which research is designed and carried out.An example might be grounded theory. The initial version of grounded theory was heavily influenced by symbolic interactionism. Over the last few decades grounded theory has evolved to move to constructivism, constructionism and very recently a critical approach (most notable influence has been Kathy Charmaz). There are other interpretations of grounded theory from different theoretical positions. So an approach might be to look at the shifts in theoretical assumptions in grounded theory and to pose an explanation for the shifts. Another approach might be to explore the strengths and limitations of GT. This would meaning drawing on primary resources (works by key grounded theorists) and other literature that critiques GT.The question on ethnography is asking for an explanation,or exploration, of why ethnography has shifted from the claim that it produces a‘ factual description of culture’ to a position where ethnography is understood as an interpretation of a culture or cultural processes.Discourse is a broad term that refers to a range of approaches to the study of the function of language. A shared assumption is that the study of language reveals dominant views, ideologies etc that influence (and construct) our social worlds. The lifestyle approach in health care would be considered a discourse and one that competes with the view that health status is linked to social determinants more so that lifestyle factors. All discourses carry certain interests – economic, political etc. The objective of DA is to reveal dominant political influences. There are many other areas of knowledge that might be the focus of your work. The point of the three examples above is to emphasise the focus on theorising rather than methods. The structureof Assignment One is about developing an essay that explores theoretical concepts as tools of interpretation. For those who are enrolled in a research degree or doing a coursework thesis use this assignment (and the others) to progress your work on your research. Writing:A good starting point is to write: “This paper will argue that…” and finish the sentence!Keep the essay to three of four significant points – don’t cover too much ground. Explore the key points in some depth. You probably do not need sub headings in an essay of the given length but I don’t mind sub headings as long as they are not used to move the essay from one point of argument to another. Subheadings are signposts only. Suggested questions:Choose from one of the following but first note that the focus of the first assignment is on theoretical justification (theoretical argument) and not on research methods. 1)Select an area of theoretical knowledge that could inform qualitative research and critically explore the key concepts (or theoretical assumptions) of the approach.2)The aim of traditional ethnography is to produce a ‘factual description’ of a cultural or sub-cultural group. Drawing on contemporary work on ethnography, critically challenge the idea of ‘factual description’ as an objective of ethnographic research.3)Critically explore the use of action research as a strategy to promote social change.4)Select an area of feminist knowledge and argue how it can inform research relevant to your area of practice. 5)Discourse analysis has gained currency as a research approach in the health sciences. Argue its application to a relevant area of your practice.Or:6)Negotiate a topic of choice. This is an opportunity for those enrolled in a research degree to develop their thesis work. Others may also negotiate a choice of topic area.I will select Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). So, my professor mentioned that you should think about 4 points related to theoretical justification (theoretical argument) that relate to your interest area. For instance, points like how language use to interact with patients or health team communications in hospital.References should be within 5 years (2014-2019).However, we can use all reference in the below as I uploaded them here in the website.Could you download that one in greencolor? I want to use them in my assignment. TextsThere is no set text for the unit. But as a very good starting point we recommend the following book (or any iterations of this text).Liamputtong, P.
