Who do you consider to be a leader? Pick carefully, as your assignment is to write a 2-page, single-spaced essay on the person you choose!
You can use a contemporary leader or a historical leader, from business, religion, sports, or other field. The ONLY fields NOT allowed are (1) people personal to you (parents, grandparents, friends, etc. – as you may be unable to provide appropriate Internet sources, (2) current politicians as I don’t want anyone triggered by reading an essay – if you do want to use a politician, it must be someone prior to 1960, and (3) a person who might genuinely trigger others (Hitler, Po Pot, Jim Jones, etc.).
Please consider studying a leader whom you know little about – as that is where the learning comes from!
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 1/2 pages; maximum 2 pages; single-spaced
- A minimum of 2 Internet sources – be sure to use the Footnote Citation Method for internal citations and your references. You can learn about the Footnote Citation method in the Essentials for Students Module. Within the article is an embedded link you can follow that will show you how to easily insert footnotes into a Word document. NOTE: Failure to cite your sources will result in a zero (0) grade for plagiarism.
- Provide the following sections in your essay, with the bolded words used as headings in your essay:
- Introduction (introduce the person and discuss why you chose this particular leader
- Background (provide historical information about the leader – what do we know about his/her early years? What in his/her youth shaped him/her? What organizations did she/he work in that might have shaped him/her into a leader? etc.
- Current Leadership Style (Be sure to use material from the Module to answer this question – what style of leadership does this person use (autocratic, democratic, etc. and is this person an transactional or transformational leader?)
