Part 1: The self-introduction and research agendasuggestion haveto be written in one discussion post altogether. Theseparate discussion posts for these two items are NOT allowed.
For your self-introduction, briefly introduceyourself in 10 sentences. It could be something about your professionalexperience, some fun facts about you etc. Make sure that it should be donewithin 10 sentences.
(Youcan either make a person or use a sample Im not picky as long as it meets the criteria for the introduction )
Part 2: For the research agenda suggestion, choose any topic that isrelated to public service, public administration, public management, or publicpolicy. Then, suggest one research on the topic of your choice. (I would likeyou to suggest new research. You should not enumerate existing studies tocomplete this assignment.) Your research suggestion should use eitherdeductive or inductive. Although the news media is not always an appropriatesource of information, I allow you to use them to ground your research ideajust for this time. Make sure to discuss why your research suggestion isconsidered a deductive or inductive one. Please cite the sources to justify orground your research (media, academic journal articles, government reports).Word limit is 125-150 words. A discussion post that is shorter or longer thanthe word limit would result in the point deduction. Please make sure to citethe sources in APA style. Letme share a brief version of my example research suggestion. Although Isuggested both deductive and industive research to help your understanding, youshould suggest only one type of research, either deductive or inductive.
My example:
Mytopic is state-level renewable energy policy, particularly the RenewablePortfolio Standards (RPS). Currently, 29 states have the RPS. The RPS mandatesthat certain % of electricity should be generated from renewables. For myresearch that uses a deductive method, I will study the factors that drive theadoption of RPS at the state level. This is a deductive research, because Iwill use the diffusion of innovation theory to test the drivers of policyadoption, and I am testing the theory using my case of RPS. On the other hand,my inductive research should be on why some of existing RPS adopting statesattempt to retract or terminate their RPS. To date, there is no theory on whystates retract or terminate the existing policy. However, the increasing numberof states have reduced the size of their RPS for the last five years.
