Audience Analysis Survey
Topic/Description:
Use a Google Form to create a survey that will gauge your audiences knowledge level on your chosen TED Talk topic.
Purpose & Audience:
As weve already discussed, knowing your audience is an integral part of effective communication. Through this assignment, you will have the opportunity to learn what your audience already knows about your chosen topic so that you may tailor your message accordingly. Additionally, you will also need to assist in helping your classmates gather the same knowledge about their chosen topics.
Instructions:
- Create a new Google Form
- If you are unfamiliar with Google forms, there are many helpful (and brief) tutorial videos on YouTube, including the one found here. Additionally, you can view a sample of a completed survey by clicking here.
- Create questions about your topic, including one of *each* of the following question types:
- Fixed-alternative (e.g. yes/no, choice a/choice b, etc.)
- Scale (e.g. on a scale of 1-10, how likely are you..)
- Open-ended (e.g. When it comes to (topic), what do you wish you knew more about?)

Drafting/Research Strategies:
Remember that an audience will tune out if the information presented to them is overly simplistic or overly complex. As you consider what questions to ask, try to choose questions that will help you establish a baseline level of your audiences understanding/awareness on your topic, while not losing them with simplicity or over-complication (i.e. avoid jargon, etc.).
Why is this survey-process important? It is important to know your audiences knowledge-level on the topic so that you can adapt the information in your next speech appropriately to meet audience needs, while providing a substantive argument. Moreover, learning how to use Google Form is a great tool for your future (or current) career.
