Choose a significant relationship you have with another individual in which you believe needs some improvement. Your relationship does not need to have problems as any relationship can benefit from communication improvement. You also need to have continuous contact with this person. Choose carefully, because you will be required to apply most chapter assignments to this relationship. It also needs to be a relationship you plan on keeping for the length of the semester as your final life application assignment will also apply to this relationship, so again choose carefully. It also needs to be a relationship that can handle being a primary source/area of improvement in your life as well as include a willing partner. I strongly encourage you to read ahead to all the assignments when making your decision who to choose for the semester. Students in the past have chosen a child (it typically only works when they are at least 12 years old), a spouse, a parent or grandparent, co-worker, coach, boss, a friend, and even an ex (as in the case when someone shares custody).
Once you have chosen the relationship, then discuss specifically (in a 1-2 page typed, double-spaced, times new roman, 12 font) paper what you would like to improve on in this relationship regarding your communication with this specific individual. Please also give a brief background of the relationship and how you are connected to this individual.
Be specific about what you want to improve. Do not simply talk about the fact that you want to improve your communication–obviously! This is a communication class. :) Instead, discuss what specifically needs to be better about the communication. If you need help considering what you want to improve, feel free to look ahead in the textbook for ideas.
