Begin by reviewing the section on Helping, Fixing or Serving beginning on page 44 in your textbook, placing particular emphasis on Remen’s (1999) definitions and description of the terms helping, fixing and serving.  Provide descriptions of times that you 1) helped or “fixed” or were helped or “fixed”.  What were the outcomes of those experiences?  How do you believe both parties felt?  Did the actions result in providing the person who was helped with skills that they could implement themselves in the future?  Next, compare and contrast a helping or fixing experience with a description of a time that you served or were served.  Finally, comment on how you can apply the insights gained from this exercise to your plans for future service learning.
