Driven by forces of globalization, new patterns of human resource management practices are being developed and adopted through various processes of transition. For example, there might be a multinational corporation (MNC) that offshores its manufacturing function or a local family business that is under pressure to seek and hire suitable workers due to talent shortages. There might be innovative ways to develop specialized workforce or global leaders, or new ways of attracting or rewarding talents while facing global competitors. For this report, you will be choosing a product that has significant meaning to you and analyzing the effects of globalization on the business and workforce involved in the process of producing or making this product. Using only academic references and secondary data (publicly available) – (e.g books, journal articles, websites, news reports, company annual reports, industry analysis, government publications…) to support your analysis, build an argument around how globalization has shaped, changed and affected HRM practices designed and adopted by the business that produced your chosen product. Divide your report into four sections: 1. Product introduction (300 words)- Describe your chosen product, explain why it is has significant meaning to you, and outline the production process for this product (including where it is made, who made it/ who is in charge of making each component, the company/ companies involved in making and delivering this product). 2. Globalization impact (300 words)- Discuss how globalization has affected the activities, policies, practices, performance and/or survival of the business that produces your chosen product. Depending on your product, here you may choose to focus on either a) the main producer of this product (if there is one clear producer); OR b) one of the businesses involved in the global value chain for this product. The business you choose to analyze here may or may not be a multinational corporation; however, you will need to build an argument for how it has been affected by forces or effects of globalization. 3. Paradoxes and HR response (1,000 words)- Identify and explain two or three paradoxes (particularly those caused by or related to globalization) faced by the business you analyzed in part 2 and discuss how their HRM practices responded to these paradoxes. Here are a few ideas (HR practices): staffing and talent sourcing; skill development and staff capacity building; designing rewards and incentives to motivate employees; performance management… 4. Future changes and impact (400 words)- Based on your analysis in the first three sections, what is your prediction of the future for this business and its workforce/ employees? What are your recommendations? Finally, how might these possible changes impact you, the end-user of this product? Your report does not require an introduction and conclusion. Credit is given to critical insight, how well the questions are answered and quality academic references (and non-academic references where appropriate) to support your answers. 2,000 words. The +10% word count allowance is NOT applicable. In-text citations are included in the word count; however, the reference list is not included in the word count. the report should be typed in font size 12 point (Times New Roman or Calibri), with all margins set to 2.5cm and line spacing 1.5.
